Ministers 'want energy prices held'

\Ministers 'want energy prices held'

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer caused due to exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma mainly affects the mesothelium which is a protective lining covering all internal organs of the body. Mostly, it originates in the pleura, which is the between the outer part of the lungs & the chest cavity. Mesothelioma may also attack in or the lining of abdominal cavity (peritoneum) or the sac which surrounds heart (that is, pericardium).

It has been observed that person having Mesothelioma must have worked on a job where he may have inhaled asbestos particulates, or he might have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in any other way. It might be caused just by washing cloths of some family member handling asbestos regularly. But, unlike lung and oral cancer, there exists no link between mesothelioma & smoking. It is an unbelievable fact that an exposure of 1 or 2 months could result in mesothelioma 30 or 40 yrs later and for some, as much as seventy years later. People exposed in the 1960s and '70s are now diagnosed of mesothelioma due to the long latency of asbestos deposit. On suffering from Mesothelioma, patient may have breathlessness, slight pain in the chest and cough, while peritoneal mesothelioma causes patient to lose weight and pain in the abdomen.

Peritoneal mesothelioma causes obstruction in bowel-area, abnormal blood clotting, anemia, and may also cause fever. In case the cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it may cause pain, troublesome swallowing, or swelling in neck and face. Mesothelioma can only be diagnosed from biopsy by pathological examination If further examination is warranted, more tests may be done. Mesothelioma has three kinds of treatments. First one involves surgery, that is, to take out the cancer. Secondly, the deadly radiation therapy to kill cancer causing cells. The third is the chemotherapy, in which drugs are inserted in body to fight cancer. Mesothelioma Patients Support Family and friends are always important when you have mesothelioma, but you may also find it beneficial to be in contact with others who share similar challenges.

It has been shown that emotional support and open patient discussion of issues helps cancer patients' quality of life. There are different categories of support. First and foremost do not underestimate the importance of support from family and friends. Human connections in difficult times become even more important and precious, especially with people with whom you are close. You may want to consider counseling, whether individual, couples or family, as a way to help deal with emotions like anger or sadness and concern about the future.

This counseling can also help communications among family members. In addition to family and friends, mesothelioma patients should consider a number of possible support services: * Religious Leaders: Members of the clergies of many faiths are trained to deal with the concerns of mesothelioma patients: pain, fear of death, feeling alone, and searching for meaning. * Home Care Services: State and local governments offer many services useful after cancer treatment. A nurse or physical therapist may be able to come to your home. Check the phone book for non-profit and for-profit Social Services, Health Services or Aging Services. When it comes to cancer or mesothelioma support groups, it is important to remember that different support groups may have different focuses and procedures. Some groups are facilitated by a psychologist or social worker, but the core of the meeting is the personal sharing of the members.

Others are led by group members, and are referred to as peer or self-help groups. Some groups are designed to be educational and structured, others emphasize emotional support and shared experience. The key is in finding a group that matches your needs Support group dynamics. It is normal to be hesitant about sharing personal issues with a group of strangers, but it is important to remember that support groups are designed to provide a confidential atmosphere where patients can openly exchange information about their illness and the emotional ramifications of cancer, as well as practical issues such as how to manage the side effects of treatments.

For the caregivers of cancer patients, support groups are also important in dealing with the stresses of financial worries and changing roles within the family. Some support groups are specific to the family and friends of those with cancer; other groups encourage family and friends to participate along with the patient. Many support groups are free, but some require a fee. You may wish to see if your insurance will cover the cost.

Protesters storm army headquarters

Protesters storm army headquarters

More than 1,000 anti-government protesters have stormed the Thailand army's headquarters, the latest high-profile target in a bid to topple Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Army spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd says the protesters broke a padlock at the gate of the compound and then pushed their way inside today. He said: "They are inside the courtyard and have not entered any buildings." The demonstrations that started on Sunday have raised fears of fresh political turmoil and instability in Thailand. They pose the biggest threat to Ms Yingluck's administration since she came to power in 2011. Groups of protesters were scattered around Bangkok today. Some are still occupying the Finance Ministry, which they stormed on Monday. Others are holed up at a sprawling government office compound.

Handler attacked by zoo tiger

Handler attacked by zoo tiger

An animal handler is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a Bengal tiger at a zoo in Australia owned by the family of late wildlife expert Steve Irwin. The handler, Dave Styles, was taken by helicopter to a hospital after the tiger dragged him into a pool and bit his neck and shoulders during a show at the Australia Zoo in Queensland.

The zoo said Mr Styles was recovering and in stable condition on Thursday. Officials said he was wearing a poncho, and the tiger may have mistaken him for its favourite biting toy. News reports said several dozen people witnessed the attack. Steve Irwin, whose family owns the zoo, was an Australian television personality and wildlife expert who died while filming an underwater documentary in 2006.

Two die in World Cup stadium crash

Two die in World Cup stadium crash

Part of the stadium that will host the 2014 World Cup opener in Brazil has collapsed, killing two workers and raising urgent new concerns about whether the country will be ready for football's biggest event. Brazil has been plagued by a series of setbacks including cost overruns, stadium delays, accidents, labour strife and massive street protests in the run-up to the June tournament, once envisioned as a coming out party for South America's largest nation, which is also scheduled to host the Olympics in 2016. Wednesday's accident at Sao Paulo's Itaquerao stadium occurred when a construction crane crashed into a 500-ton metal structure that in turn cut through the outer walls of the venue, destroying rows of seats and slamming into a massive LED panel that runs across the stadium's facade. The accident could delay delivery of the stadium, which was practically finished. FIFA has set a December deadline for all 12 World Cup venues to be ready. The World Cup begins on June 12 with Brazil playing at the Sao Paulo stadium. Officials said there were no major structural damages to the stadium but declined to say how much the accident may affect the delivery. "I don't want to know about FIFA right now, we are worried about the families of the victims," former Corinthians president Andres Sanchez told a news conference. Mr Sanchez said two people were confirmed dead and nobody else was injured. A fire department official had said earlier that three people had died. One of the workers, 42-year-old Fabio Luis Pereira, was inside a truck that was hit by the metal structure. The other, 44-year-old Ronaldo Oliveira dos Santos, was resting in an area which was supposed to be isolated. "Unfortunately nobody saw him and he himself knew that he was not supposed to be there," Mr Sanchez said. "He was napping and unfortunately there wasn't time for him to get out."
The accident happened at lunchtime, so not many of the nearly 1,700 employees working on the venue were on site when the crane collapsed on top of the metal structure, causing the deadly domino effect. "The sound was as loud as a thunderclap or a huge explosion," said Rodrigo Vessoni, a reporter with sports daily Lance who said he had just walked out of the stadium after interviewing Sanchez. "There was a lot of running around, a lot of shouting. It was frightening. Chills ran through my entire body. It was unbelievable. The noise was metal grating on metal. It was a terrible thing to see." An official with constructor Odebrecht said a similar metal structure had already been installed with the same crane at the other side of the venue earlier this year. "Everything was being done according to procedure," said Frederico Barbosa, the construction site's manager. "We will have to wait for the investigation to find out what caused the crane to collapse." Mr Sanchez reiterated that it appeared to engineers on site that the structure of the stadium had not been compromised, meaning there could be enough time to get everything fixed in time for the World Cup. He said that around 30% of the stadium will be closed off pending authorities' investigations. "Structurally very little was affected," he said. Brazil is running against time to deliver the last six World Cup stadiums by the end of the year, although work at the Itaquerao was advanced compared to the other venues. FIFA has been pressuring local organisers to make sure all venues are ready by the December deadline so all test events can take place in time for the World Cup. FIFA said it would not accept the same delays that plagued stadium construction before the Confederations Cup, when only two venues were delivered in time. The Sao Paulo stadium, which cost nearly 360 million dollars (£220m), will seat nearly 70,000 people for the opener. About 20,000 seats will be temporary and installed only for the World Cup. The venue is scheduled to host another five matches, including a semifinal. It was initially expected to be built for the Confederations Cup this year, but delays with financing for the venue prompted authorities to change their minds. "FIFA and the LOC have learnt of the death of workers at the Corinthian's Arena site in Sao Paulo with great sadness," FIFA said in a statement. "We wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the workers who tragically died today." Soccer's governing body said the "safety of workers is the top priority" to World Cup organisers. "We know the safety of all workers has always been paramount for all the construction companies contracted to build the 12 FIFA World Cup stadiums," it said in a statement. "The local authorities will fully investigate the reasons behind such a tragic accident." FIFA President Sepp Blatter said he was "deeply saddened by the tragic death of workers". "Our heartfelt condolences are with the families," he said. FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said he was "extremely shocked by the news from Sao Paulo." "Our thoughts are with the families of the victims of this accident," he said. It wasn't the first problem with World Cup stadiums in Brazil. One worker died during construction of a stadium in the capital Brasilia last year and another in the Manaus venue in March. Also in March, heavy rains flooded the construction site of the Maracana Stadium, forcing the cancellation of a FIFA inspection visit. In May, a small part of the roof at the Salvador stadium fell in after it wasn't able to sustain the large amount of water that settled on top of it. In April, another worker died at the construction site of the new Palmeiras stadium, which may be used for teams training for the World Cup in Sao Paulo. That construction site was stopped for 10 days then, when damage was not nearly as significant as it was at the Corinthians venue. In Rio, the stadium which will host athletics in the 2016 Olympics has been closed for several months because of fears that its roof could collapse. Renovation work is under way at the venue.

Couple who killed daughter get life

Couple who killed daughter get life

An Indian couple have been jailed for life for killing their 14-year-old daughter and the family's housekeeper in a murder mystery that has gripped the country for five years.
Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, both dentists from the New Delhi suburb of Noida, came under suspicion soon after their daughter, Aarushi, was found dead in her bathroom, her throat cut with surgical precision.

Police initially named the Talwars' missing Nepali housekeeper as the prime suspect, until his body was found a day later on a terrace above Aarushi's room.
Defence lawyer Satyaketu Singh said after the sentencing that "there is no evidence against them" and expressed confidence that "this judgement will be overturned."
Another lawyer for the family said the case against the Talwars, based largely on circumstantial evidence, amounted to a "witch hunt" adding: "There has been a serious miscarriage of justice in this case."

The double-murder became one of the most closely-watched whodunits in India, with dramatic turns by police and prosecutors seizing national headlines and launching debates over details of the case.
Prosecutors for the Central Bureau of Investigation have asked for the death penalty. "Such crime comes under the rarest of rare cases," prosecutor Naresh Yadav said. "So they should be awarded maximum punishment."
The investigation found both victims had been hit with a golf club and later had their throats slit.
Police offered several possible motives in prosecuting the parents, including an honour killing.

Several other suspects had been questioned by police. After the case stalled, the Talwars in 2011 demanded a fresh investigation.
The couple were also sentenced to an additional five years in prison for destruction of evidence, while Rajesh Talwar got another year for "furnishing false information to the police regarding the murder of his daughter" by the 45-year-old housekeeper.

Nigella PAs 'lived the high life'

Nigella PAs 'lived the high life'

Jurors in the trial of two personal assistants to Nigella Lawson and her former husband Charles Saatchi who are accused of using a company credit card to spend more than £685,000 on themselves have been told the case is "not about other issues of matrimonial discord or drug taking".
Opening the trial, prosecutor Jane Carpenter told jurors that allegations of drug abuse by the TV chef were not central to the trial of Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo, who each deny a count of fraud.
She told jurors: "This case is a case about fraud, you may be aware of matters which have been in the press concerning Mr Saatchi and specifically an incident outside a restaurant in June and allegations of drug taking by Mr Saatchi about Miss Lawson more recently.

"We say it's fraud motivated by greed and that's what this trial is about. Not about other issues of matrimonial discord or drug taking. "This trial, the prosecution say, relates to the high life lived by Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo. "The sort of life you may often see portrayed in glossy magazines. But we say that they did so not by their own endeavours but in a greedy and fraudulent free-for-all by abusing the trust of their employers in a four-year spending spree."

Ms Carpenter said the sisters were "employed to ensure the smooth running of Miss Lawson and Mr Saatchi's household", with duties that included looking after their children, even sometimes going on holiday alone with the youngsters. They lived rent-free, with Elisabetta, 41, paid £25,000 a year and Francesca, 35, £28,000. Miss Lawson, who employed the sisters before her marriage to Saatchi, "acknowleged that they were extremely close to her family", Ms Carpenter added. Both were given credit cards to buy items for the household and family members with the balance paid off each month by direct debit without being closely scrutinised and an understanding that they would not use it for themselves. Ms Carpenter said this was often the arrangement for staff.

She added: "For some people, however, the temptation of having a card that they can use with impunity to buy high-value goods is too great. "It must be a dishonest employee's dream to have a company credit card that's always accepted." Among the luxury goods the sisters bought were items from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Miu Miu and Prada, the court heard. "They travelled the world, staying in top hotels, and spent exorbitant sums of money on designer clothes and accessories," Ms Carpenter said. "By the time their fraud came to light they had incurred expenditure which was in excess of £685,000. "Despite the defendants' silence, it's anticipated that they will claim that Mr Saatchi and Miss Lawson permitted them to use the credit cards to buy themselves presents and withdraw cash because of the long hours they worked.

"The defendants' case is that Miss Lawson's alleged drug use and the defendants' knowledge of it materially affected Miss Lawson's attitude to the defendants' spending. "An intimate atmosphere was created by such knowledge, which affected their relationship. "Their case is that this expenditure was expressly or implicitly consented to by Miss Lawson.

"The Crown say that, although Mr Saatchi and Miss Lawson were generous employers who treated the sisters very well, it's preposterous that they would authorise such levels of expenditure to personal assistants." The court heard that Francesca Grillo spent the most money on the credit card, which was registered to Conarco Partnership - one of Mr Saatchi's companies. She was estimated to have used it to buy goods for herself worth in excess of £580,000 while her older sister's total spend was estimated to be around £105,000. Ms Carpenter added that Mr Saatchi commented that if Francesa Grillo had been allowed to spend that much money on herself, she would have been paid more than the highest paid employee in any of his companies. The court heard that the alleged offences came to light in June last year after Saatchi's finance director Rahul Gajjar noticed the high level of spending. The credit card bills usually came to between £10,000 to £20,000 a month but had risen to more than £50,000 so Mr Gajjar met with both the sisters to discuss the issue, the court heard.

Both women admitted they had been using the cards for personal expenditure and were thanked for their honesty, jurors were told. Mr Gajjar suggested that if they repaid the money they could put the matter behind them and continue working for the family on reduced salaries, to which the defendants at first agreed. The court heard that the sisters met Saatchi at the Saatchi Gallery in central London on July 20 to discuss the proposals but negotiations later broke down. Saatchi met with Francesca on another occasion, but "her attitude was it was humiliating to live in the house on less pay and would rather go to jail", Ms Carpenter said. Saatchi and Lawson broke up after pictures were published in a newspaper in June showing the millionaire art dealer holding his wife by the throat. The incident on the terrace of Scott's restaurant in Mayfair, central London, was dismissed by Saatchi as nothing more than "a playful tiff" but he later accepted a police caution for assault. Saatchi went on to tell the Mail on Sunday that the pictures gave a "wholly different and incorrect implication".

The Grillos, both of Kensington Gardens Square, Bayswater, west London, deny the charge against them. It is alleged that between January 1 2008 and December 31 2012, they committed fraud by abusing their positions as PAs by using a company credit card for personal gain. The trial was adjourned to 10am tomorrow with Saatchi due to give evidence at some point during the day. The trial, at Isleworth Crown Court in west London, heard that the sisters were arrested on August 2 last year but answered "no comment" during interviews with police before eventually being charged with fraud.

Substitution just a precaution, says injured Ronaldo

Substitution just a precaution, says injured Ronaldo

Madrid (AFP) - Cristiano Ronaldo is hopeful he could be fit to
face Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday despite being forced off with an injury during Real Madrid's 5-0 win away to Almeria on Saturday.

Ronaldo had opened the scoring after just three minutes to continue his remarkable form of late.
However, he was replaced be Jese Rodriguez just six minutes into the second period after pulling up with a slight muscle strain.
"It was a precaution. It was nothing special. They gave me a kick in the first-half and I felt the muscle was a bit stiff," he told the club's website.

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was also happy that his star man will not be sidelined for long and indicated the full extent of any injury will be confirmed on Sunday.
"I don't think it is serious because he is not in pain. It is a muscle strain so I hope he will be fine soon," said Ancelotti.

Real Madrid's coach Carlo Ancelotti, pictured before …
"Tomorrow there will be more tests, but we don't think it is a big problem."

Ronaldo's injury aside it was another fine evening for Los Blancos, who have now scored 20 goals in their last four league outings. Karim Benzema doubled their advantage just two minutes after Ronaldo's withdrawal with a fine curling effort from the edge of the area. Gareth Bale then registered his fourth goal in five games before fine finishes from Isco and Alvaro Morata rounded off the scoring to keep Madrid just six points behind Barcelona at the top of the table.

Despite his side's fine form before the international break, Ancelotti was forced into a change of formation from a 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1 as Sami Khedira suffered cruciate ligament damage in Germany's 1-1 draw with Italy last week. Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, seen during their … Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, seen during their Spanish La Liga match against Almeria, at the Med … But on their return to the side, Asier Illarramendi and Isco performed excellently to leave Ancelotti lauding the variety of options he has at his disposal. "Illarramendi has worked for two weeks and was in very good contition, as was Isco.

To put the players in a more comfortable position we changed things a little bit. Illarramendi and Xabi Alonso played very well, both defensively and offensively. The team had a bit more balance thanks to their work. "It is important to have the squad with players able to play in different formations. Today we changed to play Illarramendi and Isco in their natural positions, but it could be with (Luka) Modric we could play differently or Casemiro could replace Khedira because they have similar characteristics."

'Penniless' man is worth $65 million, court rules - and must give wife half

'Penniless' man is worth $65 million, court rules - and must give wife half

By Estelle Shirbon

LONDON (Reuters) - One of Britain's longest and most bitter divorce battles culminated on Friday with a High Court judge branding a well-connected millionaire a liar and his ex-wife a conspiracy theorist.
Far from being "penniless and hopelessly bankrupt", as he had claimed, Scot Young, 51, was worth 40 million pounds ($65 million) and his estranged wife Michelle Young, 49, should get half of it, judge Philip Moor ruled.

"This case has been quite extraordinary even by the standards of the most bitter of matrimonial breakdowns," Moor wrote in his ruling, noting that it had taken over six years and 65 court hearings to come to trial.
The case has made headlines in Britain because of the size of the claims and the fact that Scot Young has enjoyed financial help from high-profile friends including Philip Green, the billionaire owner of the Topshop retail chain.

Michelle Young has run up legal bills of 6.5 million pounds, while Scot Young has served six months in jail for failing to provide full and frank disclosure of his assets.

The pair were married for 17 years until 2006 and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle of mansions, jet-setting holidays and gifts of diamond jewelry funded by Scot Young's investments in property, technology and start-up companies. It all fell apart when the marriage breakdown coincided with what the husband described as a total meltdown of his business empire that left him "penniless and hopelessly bankrupt" with unpaid debts of 28 million pounds.

The judge said it was impossible to know the full truth of his financial position due to "the significant number of lies told by the husband to so many people over such a long period". He ordered Young to pay his ex-wife a lump sum of 20 million pounds within 28 days. Michelle Young maintains that the meltdown was a fiction specifically designed to hide her ex-husband's wealth and deprive her and the couple's two daughters of their rightful share - a version of events also rejected by the judge.

"She sees conspiracy everywhere," he wrote. A furious Michelle Young branded the ruling "disgraceful". "I stand by what I said. He's worth billions," she told reporters outside the court, according to reports in several British national media. She also issued a written statement in which she called her ex-husband a "maniac".

Iran, six world powers clinch breakthrough nuclear deal

Iran, six world powers clinch breakthrough nuclear deal

By Parisa Hafezi and Justyna Pawlak

GENEVA (Reuters) - Iran and six world powers reached a breakthrough deal early on Sunday to curb Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for limited sanctions relief, in what could be the first sign of an emerging rapprochement between the Islamic state and the West.
Aimed at ending a dangerous standoff, the agreement between Iran and the United States, France, Germany, Britain, China and Russia was clinched after more than four days of tortuous negotiations in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Halting Iran's most sensitive nuclear work, it was designed as a package of confidence-building steps to ease decades of tensions and confrontation and banish the specter of a Middle East war over Tehran's nuclear aspirations.
But Iran's arch foe Israel denounced it as a "bad deal" and said it would not be bound by it.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who has been coordinating talks with Iran on behalf of the major powers, said it created time and space for talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive solution to the dispute.
"This is only a first step," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told a news conference. "We need to start moving in the direction of restoring confidence, a direction in which we have managed to move against in the past."
Hard-pressed by sanctions, many Iranians were elated by the easing of tensions and prospect of economic improvement.
U.S. President Barack Obama said that if Iran did not meet its commitments during a six-month period, the United States would turn off sanctions relief and "ratchet up the pressure".

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warmly welcomed the interim agreement and urged the governments concerned "to do everything possible to build on this encouraging start".
But Israel was unhappy. "This is a bad deal. It grants Iran exactly what it wanted - both a significant easing in sanctions and preservation of the most significant parts of its nuclear program," an official in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhayu's office said.
Israeli officials however stopped short of threatening unilateral military action that could further isolate the Jewish state and imperil its alliance with Washington, saying more time was needed to assess the agreement.
The West fears that Iran has been seeking to develop a nuclear weapons capability. The Islamic Republic denies that, saying its nuclear program is a peaceful energy project.
The United States said the agreement halted progress on Iran's nuclear program, including construction of the Arak research reactor, which is of special concern for the West as it could yield potential bomb material.
It would neutralize Iran's stockpile of uranium refined to a fissile concentration of 20 percent, which is a close step away from the level needed for weapons, and calls for intrusive U.N. nuclear inspections, a senior U.S. official said.
Iran has also committed to stop uranium enrichment above a fissile purity of 5 percent, a U.S. fact sheet said.
Refined uranium can be used to fuel nuclear power plants - Iran's stated goal - but also provide the fissile core of an atomic bomb if refined much further.
REVERSIBLE SANCTIONS RELIEF
Diplomacy with Iran was stepped up after the June landslide election of Hassan Rouhani, a relative moderate, as Iranian president in June, replacing bellicose Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Rouhani's policy of "constructive engagement" with the outside world aims to get sanctions lifted. He has the crucial backing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, keeping powerful hardline critics at bay.
On a Twitter account widely recognized as representing Rouhani, a message said: "Iranian people's vote for moderation & constructive engagement + tireless efforts by negotiating teams are to open new horizons."
"Ultimately, it is the Iranian people and the American people who deserve the most credit. Both are responsible for this initial victory by rejecting defeatists who said that a brighter future was not possible (and) diplomacy could not succeed," said Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) think-tank.
But many obstacles remain, he said. "Hardliners in both countries will work harder than ever to sabotage this pivot towards a diplomatic path. Those whose only currency is confrontation will search for any opportunities they can find to undermine and sabotage this interim deal."
For now though, many Iranians were joyful. A post in Farsi by Zarif announcing the deal on his Facebook page received 47,979 "likes" in two hours. There was an outpouring of gratitude and many described him as a "national hero".
"Dear Doctor Zarif ... Your efforts have filled the hearts of the whole nation with happiness," wrote Shayrin Shamshirband.
"I am writing this comment with my eyes filled with tears. Thank you for everything ... After many years, you have returned happiness to the people. You have restored hope in our hearts and pride in my country," commented Mehrnoosh Mohebi.
The Geneva deal does not recognize an Iranian right to enrich uranium and sanctions would still be enforced, the U.S. official said.
But Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran's enrichment program had been officially recognized.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the agreement would make it harder for Iran to make a dash to build a nuclear weapon and would make Israel and other U.S. allies safer.
Kerry also told a news conference that while Obama would not take off the table the possible use of force against Iran, he believed it was necessary first to exhaust diplomacy.
He said the limited sanctions relief could be reversible.
After Ashton read out a statement on the deal at the United Nations office in Geneva, ministers appeared elated.
Ashton and Kerry hugged each other, and Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov shook hands. Minutes later, as the Iranian delegation posed for photos, Zarif and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius embraced.
- Potential access to $1.5 billion in revenue from trade in gold and precious metals and the suspension of some sanctions on Iran's auto sector, and its petrochemical exports.
- Allow purchases of Iranian oil to remain at their currently significantly reduced levels. "$4.2 billion from these sales will be allowed to be transferred in installments if, and as, Iran fulfils its commitments," the fact sheet said.
- License safety-related repairs and inspections inside Iran for certain Iranian airlines.
Most of the sanctions, Kerry said, would remain in place.
"The approximately $7 billion in relief is a fraction of the costs that Iran will continue to incur during this first phase under the sanctions that will remain in place," the White House said. "The vast majority of Iran's approximately $100 billion in foreign exchange holdings are inaccessible or restricted."

Kerry and the foreign ministers of the five other world powers joined the negotiations with Iran early on Saturday as the two sides appeared to be edging closer to a long-sought preliminary agreement.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a Twitter message that it was an "important and encouraging" first-stage agreement with Iran, whose nuclear program "won't move forward for 6 months and parts rolled back".

France's Fabius said: "After years of blockages, the agreement in Geneva on Iran's nuclear program is an important step to preserving security and peace."

Obama, Clinton unite at JFK's grave

Obama, Clinton unite at JFK's grave

Washington (AFP) - A pair of Democratic presidents, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton silently honored John F. Kennedy at the former US leader's grave Wednesday, marking the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

Obama and Clinton, along with First Lady Michelle Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, laid a large blue and white wreath on the sun-dappled grave of JFK, who was gunned down in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

They then stood together, with hands on hearts, as a bugler played the US military lament "Taps" before observing a moment of silence.
Extended members of the Kennedy clan looked on at the tableau of presidential power -- past, present, and possibly future.
The observance came after Obama awarded Bill Clinton and 15 other luminaries of the arts, sport, science and innovation the highest honor for US civilians, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which was first minted by Kennedy.

Later Wednesday, Obama will pay tribute to Kennedy's legacy at a speech at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington honoring medal awardees.
The Kennedy grave and eternal flame is in Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington on a hillside with a paved area fashioned from Cape Cod granite quarried from near the Kennedy clan's home base in Massachusetts.
The eternal flame was lit by Kennedy's wife Jacqueline Kennedy during his funeral in 1963 and she was buried beside her husband after her own death in 1994.

The poignant moment of remembrance came two days before the official half-century anniversary of the death of Kennedy, who was gunned down in an open-top limousine in Dallas, Texas, in a crime which traumatized the world.
The ceremonies have sparked a prolonged period of national and media reflection on the unfinished legacy of Kennedy, his tragedy-crossed family and of the evocative period in the early 1960s when his political star illuminated the world.

Kennedy's closest living relative, his daughter Caroline, however, was not at Wednesday's ceremony. An early supporter of Obama's presidential ambitions, she has just set off on a new chapter of her life as the US ambassador to Tokyo.
The joint Obama-Clinton appearance at the grave site represented the latest show of unity between two political power families who waged a bitter 2008 Democratic presidential nominating duel.

Hillary Clinton is now the red-hot favorite to land the Democratic nomination for the 2016 election -- but has not said whether she will make another run for the White House.
Presidents Clinton and Obama, two-term leaders both, laid claim to the legacy of John F. Kennedy in their own White House runs.
Clinton was famously pictured meeting Kennedy at an event in the White House Rose Garden in July 1963, and has reminisced about how he set eyes on the presidency himself after shaking JFK's hand.

Obama, who was two years old when the 35th US president was killed, accepted Kennedy's torch of Democratic Party idealism in a key moment in the 2008 campaign -- which irked the Clintons -- when president Kennedy's late brother, senator Edward Kennedy endorsed Obama at American University in Washington.
The two presidents stood together at a painful political moment for Obama, when he may be looking for political inspiration, after being brought low by the botched implementation of his signature health care law.
A CBS News poll published Wednesday found that the president's approval rating was down to 37 percent -- his lowest ever.

In the Medal of Freedom ceremony, Obama said that Clinton's presidency proved that it was possible to grow the economy, cut the deficit and invest in science, technology and education -- remarks which mirrored his own core political argument to American voters.
Kennedy's killing was blamed on a gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, who was said to be acting alone.
But the 50 years since have been replete with conspiracy theories centering on whether Oswald was the true culprit and if he was acting on his own initiative or was part of a wider plot.
